As a home inspector, I see homes in all different conditions. A large percentage are remodeled by "Flippers" who been watching to much HGTV. They think anyone can be a contractor. Many do not hold a contractor's license (which by law they must or at least hire a licensed contractor), do not get permits nor do they know the Virginia Residential Building Codes. On the surface their homes look nice...new cabinets, granite counter tops, new appliances, updated bathrooms, new carpeting/hardwood floors and a fresh paint job; however, we often find rotten crawl space timbers, no attic insulation, and leaking roofs as well as decks, plumbing and electrical not meeting code.

In contrast, Key Structures is a professional licensed and insured contractor who has been in business for decades. His work is always of the highest quality. His designs are some of the most creative. It's a pleasure to get to inspect his homes. Most inspectors' reports focus on problems, even mine; but with Chris' homes I get to highlight what is good.

If I didn't build my own homes, I would hire Key Structures. I highly recommend them.

At the recommendation of our daughter, we hired Key Structures LLC to reinvent our
kitchen after flooding caused mold behind all the cabinets, rendering them unsafe and
unhealthy. By the time our work with Key Structures was completed, they had
completely updated the first floor of our home, and built a beautiful sun room in place of
a screened porch damaged beyond repair during the flooding.

We were out of the country while most of the work was done. Linda Sewell worked with
our daughter and us over the computer, recommending cabinets, flooring , paint colors,
etc. She quickly understood our style preferences and her recommendations were
consistent with and enhanced our preferences. She went out of her way to find us just
what we wanted and to negotiate the best deals she could for us.

Chris Sewell and his subcontractors' quality of work was excellent. When several minor
touch-up items arose, Chris quickly and readily had them fixed. We are extremely
happy with our home as it turned out.

The only point of concern for us was schedule. Chris did many tasks himself and they,
thus, took longer than we had expected. We would recommend that others get a
clearer understanding than we did of the time it will take to complete key milestones,
and either accept the timing or work with Chris on ways to shorten the schedule. That
said, we would quickly and heartily recommend Key Structures to others needing
significant home remodeling or remediation.

I'm writing to let you know that Chris built us the most awesome, beautiful, well built home. After 19 years it still doesn't give us any problems structurally and otherwise, unlike some of our neighbors who didn't use Chris as their builder. :)

The house is so well insulated that our utility bills are affordable and the house stays cool and warm when it's supposed to be. Even during those 100+ degree days we have in the summer.

Our termite contractors love the awesome crawlspace that is always dry and well-lit and almost deep enough to stand up. It is so well insulated that it blocks out most of the street noise, even the fire engine when it comes by. ;)

Chris thought about things that hadn't crossed our minds. He was a great ally for me when Bobby wanted to paint the exterior trim an ugly gray. Lol. Chris's desire to provide top-quality materials, not builder-grade materials, for our house was very much appreciated. We will never forget him. If we were to build again, Chris Sewell would be the builder we would definitely choose. Thank you so much for a job well-done!

We bought our home while it was under construction when moving from Alabama to Virginia. As moving itself offers numerous stressors, we had the additional complication of a strict completion date. Being an engineer for a large chemical corporation who has moved often, I consider myself a discerning home buyer educated with residential construction and it’s process. I was, and remain impressed with Chris and his company as I witnessed them move flawlessly through the completion of our home. Promises were kept with professionalism and, when unsure of anything he let it be known to avoid any miscommunication or misinterpretation. Chris built our home and we could not have been more happy and pleased with the entire process.. We have moved many times and this build was an experience that was wonderful! He is the kind of builder that details do not get missed, he consults with the clients and offers ideas that is not only better than we thought but cost-saving as well! We loved the final product, not only because it came in on budget but also on time and the final result was one we could be proud of.. Chris completed a renovation for us a few years ago, and we are excited to be return customers with a mother-in-law suite we are adding to our waterfront home. We remember the quality, knowledge, and honesty we experienced, and now in the planning stages, we appreciate Chris' patience and guidance in our new project.

I could not help but to send you this note. Because of the nature of my work I get to see a lot of homes and even though some people might do upgrades on a kitchen or a bathroom, I must say your work is just beautiful for an entire project. I have had the chance to see your work now in three different homes and WOW. I even got to witness Chris busy at work too, as I was at one of his construction sites one day when he was there busy at work. His attention to detail and doing the job right is very impressive. But even though that impressed me what caught my attention the most, was we are not talking about one simple upgrade, but an entire project.
